OOC PREFERENCES:
•CONTACT METHOD: PM or
frodabaggins.
•THREAD-JACKING: Totally fine as long as it's public.
•FOURTH WALLING / CANON PUNCTURE: Probably not, no. Some general "oh you're from a zombie apocalypse" might be okay with really genre-savvy types, but nothing for the specific game, please.
•BACKTAGGING: Always - I will continue tagging a thread as long as it takes to complete, or as long as everyone involved feels like it.
•AVOIDED TOPICS: I'm not generally interested in doing plots that deal explicitly with rape or sexual assault; otherwise I'm open to just about anything!
IC CHARACTERISTICS:
•PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: Joel is in his late 40's (probably 48ish), hazel eyes, dark hair starting to go gray, and a beard. He's a weatherbeaten tough guy, with a lot of careworn lines on his face. He's built on the big side, broad shoulders and obviously quite fit and strong for his age. The clothes he wears are old, ratty, and stained with dirt, sweat and blood. In a world where running water is a luxury and clothes are no longer manufactured on a large scale, practicality is a must, and frankly, beggars can't be choosers. He just needs to cover himself, keep warm when it's cold, and be able to move around easily.
•DEMEANOR: Stoic most of the time, Joel's seen a lot of really bad shit in his life and not much surprises him anymore. He can by turns become cold as ice, or if you're really lucky he might show a hint of warmth (if you get on his good side).
•ABILITIES: Badass normal. Joel has no special powers or abilities to speak of, aside from extremely good survival instincts, and a wicked cleverness that allows him to make use of whatever resources he finds to hand. He can improvise and adapt quickly to changing situations, something that has stood him in good stead for the past twenty years.
•MEDICAL INFORMATION: Nothing in particular - Joel's a pretty normal, healthy 48-year-old, though he's probably got numerous scars all over his body from various injuries he's sustained over the years. It's also very likely he's a little undernourished, given the decided lack of nutritional food available in his world.
•OFFENSIVE SUBJECTS: Not much outright offends him, though getting him to talk about his past is pretty damn difficult. And pushing him on a topic he doesn't want to deal with can end badly. Sarah, his daughter who was killed in the initial outbreak, is particularly off-limits, and is the closest thing he has to a berserk button. Almost the only other way to really rile him up is to threaten or attempt violence against one of the few people Joel really cares about - in any given situation this could mean Ellie, Sarah, or Tess, in particular. Do not mess with these people unless you're prepared to see Joel very angry, and very violent.
IC PERMISSIONS:
•MENTAL/MIMICRY: Just let me know and we'll work something out - I'm usually fine with stuff like this, though be aware, Joel's got some pretty dark shit in his past, so anyone who wants to invade his mind or memories is in for a trauma conga line.
•VIOLENCE: This is a big part of Joel's life, and I love fight scenes. Bring it on! He's very tough, and a great fighter, but he's far from invincible and being a badass normal, is probably no match for superpowered, magical or supernatural creatures.
•MAGIC: I imagine Joel is completely susceptible to magic - just let me know what you'd like to do to him.
•DEBATE: He's not really much of a philosopher, but anyone can sure try if they want.
•HUGGING/KISSING/PHYSICAL AFFECTION: You can try, but he's prickly as a porcupine, and only a couple of people from his canon could probably get away with it.
•SHIPS: In situations where she's around, Tess gets first dibs, sorry ladies. When Tess isn't around, I'm not opposed to other things should they develop naturally - just be aware that getting to that place with Joel would inevitably take a lot of time, patience and tenacity. He's not the sort to trust easily or let anyone get too close too fast.
•OTHER / NOTES: Trigger warnings with this guy include a fuckton of violence and murder, zombies zombies zombies, some torture and other nasty things that are pretty morally questionable. Other bad stuff that might come up with him include things like child death, body horror, cannibalism, suicide. I will always label anything I think could be triggering in a particular thread, but please feel free to let me know if I miss something or if you ever need to opt-out!
